Kaizen Academy is a highly regarded fencing school based in Redmond, Washington, with two sister locations walking distance apart. Established in 2019 by Kevin Mar, it has quickly gained recognition for its excellence in Olympic-style épée fencing. Students from across the greater Seattle area and beyond are drawn to Kaizen Academy to train under our esteemed team of coaches and to be part of a community that values continuous improvement, excellence, and inclusivity.
From Washington To The World Stage
Kaizen Academy is proud to have trained athletes who have medaled on both national and international stages—including at the prestigious Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships. One standout student made history as the first athlete from Washington state in 25 years to compete at the World Fencing Championships—earning three world medals and setting sights on the Olympics.
Our coaching staff features nationally and internationally accredited experts, including former Olympians and world champions. Beyond athletic excellence, Kaizen is celebrated for its unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. With a balanced 50/50 male-to-female student ratio and members who speak over 30 languages, we foster a truly global and welcoming environment.
In recognition of our outstanding competitive achievements, Kaizen Academy was named a USA Fencing Club of Excellence for the 2022–2023 season, ranking among the top five clubs nationwide with the highest number of regional patch winners. Our Mission
Our mission is to provide structured, leadership-oriented Olympic fencing training—with a focus on épée—to both able-bodied and wheelchair (parafencing) students. We offer traditional fencing classes for all-ages, private lessons, and competitive programs for adults and children (starting at age 3), ensuring elite-level instruction at every level.
